The Google Chromebook Pixel is the latest edition to the search engine giant’s range of laptops and the device that takes advantage of the company’s Chrome OS has already been put up for sale through select retailers for a starting price of $1,299. It will be made available in Wi-Fi-only and 4G LTE versions.
The device works towards delivering an improved web browsing experience with clear visuals. Its ability to project vivid colors and sharp text can be attributed to the screen with a wide-viewing angle and a density of 239ppi. The 12.85-inch touchscreen of 2560 x 1700p resolution reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass, boasts of an aspect ratio of 3:2 and 400 nit screen brightness. Besides this, it tags along a backlit keyboard and an etched-glass touchpad.
Measuring 297.7 x 224.6 x 16.2 millimeters, it tips the scales at 1.52 kilograms. The device is fitted with a 720p webcam, a full-range of speakers and three microphones for facilitating video conferencing and even keeping prospective users entertained at all times. It gains steam from a dual core Intel Core i5 processor that clocks in a speed of 1.8GHz and employs an Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU as well.
Constructed using anodized aluminum, the laptop hides a cooling system under the hood. It ships with 4GB of DDR3 RAM and provides 1TB of storage space on Drive cloud-based service for a period of three years. The Wi-Fi-only version incorporates a 32GB SSD, while the LTE variant is the proud owner of a drive with 64GB capacity.
The notebook can be expected to cough up the juice for usage time of close to 5 hours, thanks to a 59Wh battery. There’s Bluetooth 4.0 for pairing up compatible devices and a couple of USB 2.0 ports for tethering peripherals. Moreover, a mini display port as well as a card reader have also been embedded in it.
The Wi-Fi Google Chromebook Pixel can be picked up in the UK and the US for £1,049 (approx. Rs. 87,315) and $1,299 (approx. Rs. 70,735), respectively through the Play store. The LTE version is only available stateside for $1,449 (approx. Rs. 78,910). It will soon hit store shelves via Best Buy and Currys PC World.
